Leadership & Development

Leadership is often talked about in big terms.

Vision. Strategy. Influence.

But most of the time, leadership shows up in smaller, more human moments—how we respond under pressure, how we support others, and how we make decisions when the path forward isn't clear.

It's not just about leading well when things are going right. It's about showing up when they're not.

My Perspective

My work in leadership has always centered on people.

As a Dean of Students, I've spent years working with individuals and teams navigating real-life challenges—moments that require clarity, judgment, and the ability to balance competing needs.

Before that, my time in ministry and leading large-scale events required building teams, managing complexity, and bringing people together around a shared purpose.

Across all of these experiences, one thing has remained consistent: leadership is not about control. It's about presence, perspective, and the ability to guide people through moments that matter.

My experience also includes leading large-scale event production, where success depended on coordination, adaptability, and the ability to bring people together under pressure.

What This Looks Like

Leadership and development don't happen in isolation. They take shape through experience, reflection, and the willingness to grow.

This might include:

  • Navigating difficult conversations with clarity and respect
  • Supporting individuals as they grow into leadership roles
  • Managing competing priorities in complex environments
  • Building teams that trust one another and work toward a shared goal
  • Making decisions when there isn't a perfect answer

These are the moments where leadership is formed—not in theory, but in practice.

How I Approach This Work

I don't approach leadership as a set of techniques.

Instead, I focus on helping people:

  • Understand their role and influence
  • See situations clearly, especially under pressure
  • Build confidence in their decision-making
  • Develop a leadership style that is authentic and sustainable

This is about growth over time—not quick fixes or surface-level change.

Development Matters

Development isn't separate from leadership—it's what makes leadership possible.

People don't become effective leaders overnight. It happens through experience, feedback, and a willingness to reflect and adjust along the way.

Creating environments where people can grow, learn, and contribute meaningfully is one of the most important parts of leadership.

Leadership is not about having all the answers.

It's about being willing to step into moments that matter, support the people around you, and move forward with clarity—even when things are uncertain.

That's where real leadership takes shape.
